3 Things to Do Today If You Do Nothing Else

We all have days when it feels like nothing will get done.

It could be that you’re feeling a bit down for not particular reason and just want to spend the day in pyjamas eating snacks. Maybe you’re having a poor mental health day and doing anything “productive” just seems too much. Or you might be coming down with the flu.

Whatever it is you’re going through there are a few things you can do just to keep yourself going and not to feel stuck in a rut. In the end, we tend to feel better when we accomplish even very simple things, as opposed to doing “nothing whatsoever”.

Here are a few basic things you can do on the days when all you really want to do is stay in bed.

Eat Something

First and foremost, make sure to look after yourself. There are days when you don’t need to accomplish anything but your own wellbeing. Sleep matters, and so does food.

If you need a mood boost

Want to lift your spirits? Maybe you can prepare yourself a nice meal to treat yourself.

Make it all feel-goody by setting the mood. Pour yourself a glass of wine, get a nice box of chocolates. Light a candle. Spend a bit of time making your meal something more than just nutrition. Take your time eating it and enjoying it.

If you need some comforting

Sometimes we just need to snuggle up and gorge on some comfort food.

Get your favourite snacks, a nice cup of tea or cocoa. Remember as a kid thinking when you’re grown up you can eat all the candy you want?

Yeah, go ahead and eat all the candy you want.

If you’re feeling low

Eat something. Just eat.

If you don’t have the energy to prepare a meal from scratch, maybe you can heat something up.

Can you order a meal in? Do you have someone who could make a meal for you?

Having a good meal is likely to help your condition improve. But failing that, you still need to be nourished.

If getting a full meal together feels too much, just eat something. A cracker, a carrot, a handful of raisins. Get some sustenance to keep yourself going.

Clean Something

If you need a mood boost

Try cleaning up your surroundings and see what happens. Living in a mess can make us feel a bit down, so try cleaning up to help boost your mood.

You can do general things like getting rid of that pile of half used clothing, wiping down the mirror or tackling that blocked sink finally.

Cleaning the impurities can be cathartic and help lift your mood too. Once you can sit down in a clean environment you’ll feel better already.

If you need some comforting

Take a nice bath to improve your mood. Or a warm shower. Take care of your body, embrace it. Cleanse yourself of your worries and let them wash away. Hold yourself and treat your body well.

If you’re feeling low

Did you brush your teeth? Good. Managed to take a shower? No? Okay, no worries.

Are you okay to wash that plate after use? Nope? Fine, you can do that tomorrow.

Move Something

Getting moving is going to help you feel energised and boosts endorphins which help to lift mood and lower feelings of pain.

If you need a mood boost

Maybe you can go out for a walk or a run. Fresh air and no distraction might do you good.

Have you tried taking a dance class? Failing that, you could just jump and dance around at home. Listen to some music and move to the beat. No one’s watching.

If you need some comforting

You might not feel like you can do a workout. Can you go for a little walk to get some movement outdoors? Just get some fresh air a bit, go to a park and sit on the bench for a while. I’m sure you will feel better – even if the weather is not great!

If you’re feeling low

Not feeling like jumping or going outside?

Get out of bed. Shake your beddings.

Just move something around. It sounds simplistic, but even a small thing can make you feel differently. Maybe put something lying on the floor back to its place.

Give yourself a hug and do a little stretch. Make your bed. Making your bed always makes a difference.
