Natural Makeup Removal

You are probably used to your makeup removal routine. You may have had the same routine for years and use the same products you got since you first started using makeup, and haven’t thought much about it since.

While we tend to think about our face care routines and switch up moisturisers and cleansers every now and again, removal in itself is often quite straightforward in our heads. We are cautious about taking care of our skin, but somehow eye makeup removal seems to be the one that we just want to get over and done with.

It makes sense to want the removal to be easy and carefree, and that’s why it is worth giving thought to the type of products you are using. The things you put on your skin are just as important as the things you use to take them off. Products in daily use on your skin will have an impact on it and the effects will build up over time.

You don’t want to have to rub hard on your skin or eyes as lashes might come off and this is too harsh on the skin.

You don’t need a commercial makeup remover to get rid of mascara – not even waterproof mascara!

Many commercial products are too harsh for the skin. To achieve a balance you need to use multiple products – remover, toner, moisturiser…

Products to cleanse, then to rehydrate.

Natural oils do not clog the skin and cause breakouts. Instead, they cleanse and nourish it at the same time.

I have been using almond oil for makeup removal for over a decade. It is thin and does not burn the eyes like olive oil would. It leaves the skin feeling smooth, but not with a film like with coconut oil it might. When you wake up the skin feels supple and soft, not oily.

Coconout oil has become very popular in recent years for all sorts of skin and healthcare – more on coconut oil in an upcoming post.
