Dyeing your hair at home can be fun, but it is also such a mess!
If you have ever ended up having to clean the entire bathroom – including the walls – after dyeing your hair – you are not alone!
Of course the first step to avoiding stains is to prevent them in the first place. Keep the dye away from surfaces that stain easily, such as the toilet seat and any wooden surfaces. Bathroom sinks are much easier to clean.
Cover any areas that you might use the products in – for example, you might want to place some newspaper or paper towel around.
Have some paper towel at hand as well to clean as you go, to wipe off any stains before they set.
Avoid dye stains on your face and neck by rubbing some oil – anything goes, from olive oil to almond oil. I like almond oil for facial use in general (see why almond oil is great for makeup removal)
If you do end up getting any product on your skin, wipe it off as soon as possible with some cotton wool dipped in oil and it will come off much easier with no need to scrub hard – and you wont end up with those hair colour tattoos all over your neck
Make sure you are always wearing clothes and using towels during the process that you do not mind staining. It will be difficult to clean those of any colour stains.
After the job is done there may still be some scrubbing to do – again, try using warm water, some natural oils/facial creams to blend it.
Hair colour is acidic – so using alkaline solutions like washing liquid will help remove it from surfaces. Baking soda works great in removing stains from bathroom areas like sinks, showers and bath rubs.
While you wait for your colour to take effect you can already get a head start on cleaning the bathroom of any stains, so they don’t sit!
That is why dyeing your hair is also a good opportunity to do a full bathroom clean 😉
Happy colouring!
